i hate them
they are good feeders since they have quite a but of meat and a very soft shell
i use them and keep them as feeders in rubbermaid because of the sheere masses of them produced

You hate them, yet all you have to say about them is posotive :? Personally I love them! They are easily contained, breed like wildfire, and have a very high meat to shell ratio. Whats not to love? :D

how do you think they compare to B.dubia? I was wanting to start a small colony and sell off the excess but I need the overall size to stay at two inches or less...or at least a good meaty nymph at 2 inches or less.

compared to dubia they suck if you feeding a small collection
but if your like me and have a 5 lbs. cane toad to feed you need somthin that breeds that fast as she can eat 600 dubia 1 molt away from adult in less than 5minutes
as for why i hate them
they smell they are aggressive and they climb

thanks for the quick reply. I do have a small collection so I might just go with the dubia and sell off any excess :p

While they breed extremely easily, I've found they smell more than any of the other roaches I've encountered.

They're also adept at climbing any enclosure and I've found petroleum jelly or a thin smear of Pam cooking spray doesn't deter them either. I've found it takes the Bug Stop teflon stuff to really keep them in.

And ultimately, only 2 of my tarantulas will actually eat them. The others just attack them and run the other direction, while they greedily gobble up B. lateralis.

haha mmmmmmmmmmm meaty (harveys commercial)
i have no smell from my colonies
as long as you use a good soft soil substrate no roaches should smell other them skunk roaches and the defensive smells
i like the defensive smells tho so its all good
(btw if you have a large colonie of adult dubia and no babies and piss them off they smell like a very expensive cologne(puma))

That's an interesting tidbit. I might be pissing off a few colonies to cover up my dog's pee smell ;P

Now is that one of those things where it's just you that likes it?
I had a ferret long ago, and I liked the way he smelled, but most people think they smell like a skunk.
