Alright, so one of my friends is getting a place of his own and he's interested in getting a T. We talked about it a lot and started to narrow down what kind would be best based on what he wanted. He was looking for something that got fairly large, and he was leaning towards terrestrial and he wanted something hardy, and colorful. Eventually I suggested a Nhandu Chormatus. Be he also wants one that's fairly docile, he says he can deal with skittish and even a little attitude, but he doesn't want something that's going to try and kill him every chance it gets.

So, my question is, I've never owned a Nhandu so I really don't know what their temperament is. I did search around, but either the search and I aren't getting along today or there isn't a lot of chatter on how these are as far as temperament goes.

I also suggested he get a GBB which I think he's considering, but he seemed to be amused of my comparison of a N. chromatus to the cat in the hat.

I haven't had my N chromatus very long, but what I've seen about him so far matches up perfectly with what I read; he isn't as much angry as he is skittish. He comes out quite a bit but once I get too close or go to open his cup he runs away. Has never once threat postured me. And like I said, from what I've read that's par for the course.

Very defensive species. They can give you threat postures and some even attacks but you can definately count on it trying to hide. its speed is unreal when it runs for cover. I think the GBB would be idea. super hardy and pretty much maintence free.

Alright, well I'll let him know that and see what he says. I think a GBB would probably be a better choice for him, so I'll see what he thinks.

Just show him the comparison. (These pictures are very recent)

Note: In terms as sizes, the N. chromatus gets much larger than the GBB.

Agreed.
But I think the Nc is a more visible sp. that fits the requirements...GBB fits all requirements too. The Nc gets larger, both are skittish and fast terrestrials when bolting. And, even though the Nc is quicker to show threat displays - it's also a fraction of the cost of a GBB, which makes it a slightly better choice for your friend. Of course, imo!

I have two Nhandu's, and 1 GBB.
Both my Nhandu's are very skittish, and they hide as soon as they sense my presence. It's very hard to take pictures of them, but I know they are happy in their hidey holes :)
My GBB doesn't care if I stare, or take pictures, as long as I feed him a big juicy cricket :D
