This spider was seen by a friend of mine-originally in a cup of (fortunately cool!) coffee! Since I am the "Spider Guy" among my group of friends she sent some pictures for identification. However, true spiders are not my forte, and quite frankly this one has me stumped. Coloration is somewhat reminiscent of the woodlouse spider Dysdera crocatus, but it lacks that specie's distinctive chelicerae.
I wish she had been able to take a picture at closer range, but this is what I had to work with. There is another pic presenting a more or less identical view of the mysterious arachnid, but as stated, almost identical to this one. The spider was found in a suburban area near Long Island.
