Mystery Bug

I caught this beast in Cambodia, and I have no clue what it is. It looks like some kind of katydid, but what do I know. Any ideas?

Wow................!!! Great find. As you suspected, it is some sort of Katydid, though more than that I cant say. Be interesting to try to rear something like that.

Indeed, it would be interesting. If I knew I could have brought it back to the states, I definately would have. Along with all of the other cool creatures that I found over there.

I don't think caring for it is an issue. Doesn't Z. imply that he didn't bring it back to the States? Perhaps illegal? Don't really want to have to have Customs find that sucker in your bags!

It's not a stick bug, its a katydid (Tettigoniidae).

No, I don’t visit Cambodia regularly. I just happened to get a chance to spend 2 weeks working in a rural area near the Vietnam border. I highly recommend going to a place in Southeast Asia if you like critters. (and I assume you do) I found that katydid, giant crickets, giant millipedes, scorpions, monkeys, geckos, skinks...no snakes though.

It’s was a very cool experience.
