Hello Everyone,

My better half picked up some anoles from the dreaded pet-co type organization months ago, one with a visible ailment. Thus the progression of this, "disease" is not a surprise to us, He has and is having a happy cricket filled life but the deviations on his body are becoming more visible. I thought I'd get some opinions as to the cause of these puss sacs.

And yes, I know, many will recommend a Vet visit, but this is not a possibility, however, we are curious as to what he had!

The symptoms are pretty straight forward: large puss filled lumps around the anus and mouth, some containing pus, other with hard debri that ruptured recently. He was kept with a large critter keeper with a basking area, humid box if wanted, and dry side. fed regularly a variety of diet, from home raised mealworms and moths, to crickets and roaches.
Warning, pictures are not for the squeamish!

I don't think kritter keepers are good enough. I had mine in 20 gallon glass tank with UVA/UVB light hood and humidity gauge. They need more than just crickets and also calcium and vitamin powder dusting on prey every few days.

WC frequently have parasites. I had green anoles and they had pus wounds outside and I was told it was parasites and possible bacterial infection from poor housing at pet store the anole eventually stopped eating and died and I never bought them again as all are wild caught and I don't support the sale of them after so many dying needlessly.

I would find and exotic vet that could help it, could be a fluid filled cyst or infection that with treatment might heal.

You definitely need a qualified vet. From the pics we are only guessing. Infection, yes. Parasites, possible. Underlying cause unknown. If you have multiple specimens a biopsy would be in order.

How are you going to complain about Petco when you kept him in a Kritter keeper with (I'm assuming from the op) no UVB lighting when at the store he probably had a bigger tank with UVB lighting and the proper humidity. And more importantly if he was at this "dreaded Petco type organization" he would have vet treatment by now.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for the input, it does indeed have UVB! a special fixture we hooked up, and a humidity gauge and humidity box/mobile hides split between dry and dry for the lizards choosing, it also received several differing food items, not just crickets, This was purchased with a known ailment, my curiosity is more what the ailment is over the cause :)

Well, barring a hotshot vet familiar with the scenario and symptoms, you need to chum it up with a friendly neighborhood pathologist who is willing to section cell samples and have a close look at what is going on without slamming you with the usual $300 or so bill.
