I ordered a $100 new world arboreal box from palp friction. Super excited. Has anyone else done these?

Not my thing, but they have become very popular. I've heard mixed reviews - almost 50/50 down the middle between a thumbs up and a thumbs down.
It really depends upon who is offering them. Some are going to have some real thought put into them and others will just treat them as a good way to get rid of excess stock that they can't move.
Hopefully you're not disappointed.

I find any tarantula mystery box to be only for the beginner or small collection type people in this hobby. If you're new to this hobby or have very little number of species in your collection then it's highly worth a shot and most likely you're not going to be disappointed. I know some people have some great mystery boxes and others have at least a decent mystery box, but I recommend getting any mystery box from someone reputable, so you don't end up with someones cheap stock that won't sell. Reputable sellers/dealers such as Fear Not Tarantulas tend to give you some of the better mystery boxes and most people are not disappointed with them, so I'll recommend them for anyone who wants a good mystery box.

I wouldn't personally buy one because I'm most likely going to get some species that I already have.

Did you do the "mystery labels"?.
I did a true mystery box from them,Palp Friction.It was a combo box NW/OW,
Combo of terrestrials, arboreal/fossorial.
I will say I spent more on mine. Now,was it
worth it?.
IMO,no...I agree with just finding and ordering the animals you want.
Some off the slings I received,I still don't know what they are, aside from being OW/NW.I was able to make a educated guess to the appropriate care, and so far everything is going well.Best of luck, have fun.Did you indicate your experience level when you ordered?.

I definitely plan on doing a mystery box soon, haven't done one yet but I am excited for you! I believe PF is the one I'll be doing as they encourage you to list the Ts you already have so you don't get ones you already have if you don't want multiples of one sp. I also like the different options you can choose (i.e. "more but less expensive" Ts or "fewer but more expensive" Ts or even "please for the love of god don't send me any dwarves" etc.

I do agree with you but what's with this "crazy cat people" thing you U.S guys keep talking? As if lady cats lovers are crazy, nuts or else? :bored:

I love cats (and dogs as well) and here in Italy I know a lot of 'Gattare' (cats loving older ladies, basically) and they are literally angels. They saved one of my cats more than once (she was lost) and they collect food for poor cats in their free time :)

Bravo! :)

But I've noticed, here on this site, that many people talks about 'crazy cat lovers'. What's that? Why? :pompous:

Not a fan. Maybe if I was just starting out, I'd like the idea better. At the moment, I only want a couple of specific things, and more importantly, I don't want more species repeats. Shelf space is limited.

In general, I also think people should research every animal they have prior to getting it. And more often than not, it's just dealers trying to move Ts that aren't selling by selling people on the 'mystery' aspect of it.

Not doing a testimony for Palp Friction, but, they will however ask/give you,the buyer, the opportunity to list
your current T,s,to avoid this very issue.Again, its very important to do this type of order, with a business you
trust.AND..be somewhat an experienced T keeper, especially if you go the OW route.Or a combo of OW/NW.

At that point, why wouldn't I just order what I want?

Palp Friction has been in the rough after the brown boxing incident. But they're genuine people for sure and one of the better pricing reputable dealers out there. It's probably just me but everytime I buy a lot of T.'s from them I tend to get some unusual or great species as freebies from them. I have noticed they're rising the prices a little bit but it's not too expensive yet. As for mystery boxes, who knows?

My concern with Palp Friction is that if a person purchased an expensive mystery box and listed all the species they own and then they asked for something different that they don't have, wouldn't they just be cheating themselves out?? An example is me, I have a lot of species, but if I buy an expensive mystery box and told them to give me something I don't have yet, then that's the issue I see. Pretty much that means all the common/uncommon species are out of the question and leaving just the rare species left like the Xenesthis sp. they have for sale. So for an example, say a expensive mystery box has 5-7 T.'s. Then that gives me a win and them a loss of profit. What this would conclude if it did happen is me having like Pokies, Xenesthis, and Pampho's in the end. I love Palp Friction, but I do think they need to rethink the mystery boxes.

He asked for a pencil and said you made the list. What that means I don't know... 20170405_154056.jpg

Some people like surprises. I for one hate them so tarantula mystery boxes just aren’t for me. I’d probably end up with an LP, one of the only tarantulas I know for sure I don’t want. Now, if people started getting like T. seladonias, I’d probably change my mind.
