My Vitronura giselae culture

I recently started keeping these adorable springtails after I got some help with their care. I tried in the past and accidentally starved them all! Turns out they eat slime mold! I have a culture of slime mold now that I keep to feed these guys. I collected some from outside a couple weeks ago and have lots of babies now! I love them and think they are the cutest lil bugs. Not the largest pets but their colors and cuteness make up for it.

Thank you! This was using and Nikon d7500 and a sigma 105mm macro with a raynox 250

These came from a park but I do find them in my yard occasionally too!

One species that I plan on attempting to culture actually rolls into a ball a bit. I collected them a while back and also accidentally starved them. I plan on collecting more when it warms up and seeing if they will eat slime too

I also collected some Morulina sp. the pink/purple one may be Morulina but it could be Neanura as well, I’ll have to get more photos to be sure. The Morulina I’m keeping just laid some eggs last night as well. Also another V. giselae image.

Here are some new shots of these guys. Lots of eggs always. The last photo shows one on the far right that is much redder, I see these frequently and believe they are freshly molted

My colony is still doing good, I found out that many babies were escaping though so my colony wasn’t increasing in numbers like I hoped. They have been rehoused though so hopefully they will continue to skyrocket

FYI, turns out this species can bioluminesce! Try blowing on them lightly in a dark room.

I actually did try that but couldn’t get any to glow! I did however get my Sensillanura barberi and Neanura sp to glow quite easily

Well I had no idea Neanura could glow as well, that's super cool!
