I just purchased these today, another G. rosea and my first ever H. lividum!
The pics themselves aren't superb, but they're what I have so far...well here's Chick Pea, my new rosie:

Very blurry, but cool

And now Rowena, my H. lividum hehehehe ;P This one was taken while she was still in her itty bitty container I brought her home in.

Finally at home {D

Not showing dazzling colors at the moment, but hopefully after a good molt they'll start to come out more *crosses fingers*

Oh yes, and I know it looks dry in the H. lividum enclosure, but I gave her a nice misting shortly after those photos were taken ;-) no worries.

Nice T.'s. I saw a h. lividum about the same size and in the same type of deli cup the last time I was at the reptile swap.

I would do like 8 inches for a burrower but 5 should be good. Also maybe make a premade burrow next to the glass, so your more likely to see him once he decides to stay buried for a year on end lol

How long does it usually take H. lividum to start making a burrow? I know it varies from spider to spider, but what would you think from personal experience? She seems to like it in the little half-log hide for now, hasn't come out of it much since I brought her home.

the one that my friend had didnt make one but once he made one in the tank as a start it built a nice deep one

That was only after a week though so maybe it takes longer for them to start one. IDK if they need to be more comfrotable first

My H. lividum burrowed about two to three weeks after I got her. I found that potting soil works great for substrate, as long as it is free of additives or fertilizers. I actually used old potting soil that had sat out in a pot for well over a year. I don't like peat because I have experienced lots of mold and fungus, even if kept just barely moist. I have never seen potting soil develop mold in my enclosures and I kept it plenty moist for my H. lividum. I filled my enclosure six inches deep and used a paper towel roll to form a starter burrow as I filled the tank. Make sure whatever you are using has no rocks, my H. lividum injured herself quite badly by scraping against sharp rocks in the substrate. Good luck with yours, they are wonderful spiders!;)

They look great. Congrats on the new babies! Your G. rosea looks like a red phase, no? If so, that's a great find. :)

I my experience, mixing potting soil in with either peat moss or coco fiber dirt works really well for a burrower because potting soil seems to stay wet forever and holds the shape good. I used this method for my 7" King Baboon and she has had a stable borrow down 10" of dirt for like 5 months now.

nice looking ts. i am close to getting my first haplo myself...but i already have a l parahybana that is enough of a pet hole as it is for now. :)

ps. if your rosea spends a lot of time on the sides...perhaps the substrate is too moist. all of mine, and the ones i've seen threads about, hate moist substrate.
