Picked up a baby "Uthai Thani" Thai vinegaroon several weeks ago. It seemed to be completely fine until I checked on it a few minutes ago, and when I didn't see it, decided to lift the cork bark and found it dead. I fed it pre killed mealworm halves once a week, which it seemed to be eating, and kept the substrate relatively moist as I was advised to do. Temperatures ranged form ~67-76 F. It looked absolutely normal 3ish days ago when I last saw it. I understand not a whole lot it known about this species or any vinegaroons outside the North American varieties, but if anyone has any insight into what might have happened I would be very grateful.

I know nothing about vinegaroons, so I could be totally wrong, but did you offer a moisture gradient? Several people who keep tarantulas have said that this is better because it allows them to choose their ideal moisture level. Might be the same for vinegaroons.

I purchased 3 small tohono vinegaroons earlier this year and one is unwell. The others have buried in deep burrows and have remained there but this one abandoned its burrow and is always in a stress pose or wandering around. It also has problems when moving. All have the same setups so I'm unsure what is going on.

I did have a gradient to some degree, the setup it was in was much like an isopod setup with about a quarter of the surface covered in moss that I would mist more frequently. I did not allow the substrate to get too dry though, as I was warned they are prone to desiccation.

Sorry to hear one of yours isn't well. Sometimes individual animals just have problems and unfortunately there isn't a whole lot we can do about it. I'm hoping that was the case with my Thai guy and I wasn't making some husbandry mistake.
