Hey, well I just got some superworms today and I setup an enclosure for them.

So this is it.

Plastic Kritter Keeper - 6" length x 2.5" width x 4.5" height

2 inches of wheat bran substrate

And that's it.

Right now I have about 25 superworms in there.

Also I put a small piece of carrot, and cabbage in there.

Should I add in anything else? My room temp is only about 20 celcius, so I'm assuming it's a bit low for them, right?

Also, I got another question. My Emperor Scorpion doesn't seem to be interested in eating the superworm (as I tried to give him one but he refused and when I dropped it on his body he just threw it off), but I'm not sure when he will be hungry. Should I put the superworms into a tiny container and put them into my scorpion enclosure so that when he gets hungry he can just go and eat them by himself?

ADVICE PLEASE! :D

I honestly have never seen an emp eat super worms. I honestly dont know if he will eat them. I think young emps eat mashed up superworms, but an adult? They normally hunt, crickets or roaches work best IMO. Good luck.

I have never had luck getting anything to take super worms. I would just stick with crickets and roaches

Superworms=Gross. My lizards wouldn't even eat them. They always chew their way out of the containers at work lol. I honestly think that the worms smell nearly as bad as crickets. Best advice would be buy crickets every week or invest in a roach colony. Superworms are fairly tempramental in regards to temperature. I know at work we can't refridgerate them like the mealworms/waxworms. They die right away. I'm trying to start a mealworm colony (very small) more for educational purposes than as feeders. The only thing I've used them for in regards to feed is for extremely malnourished lizards.

If you're set on using worms though your setup sounds quite nice. Higher temperatures will cause them to pupate faster. I'm not sure how much humidity they require but I know they stink something awful when they start to get wet. I'm not sure exactly what the beetles' nutritional value is and if that form poses any defensive threat to the scorp. I'd imagine them being less fattening but have no way to confirm it.

In case you didn't know the Superworms are going to turn into a decent sized black beetle called a darkling beetle. Mealworm versions don't bite as far as I know but I have never seen the superworm version.

Mealworms is called Tenebrio molitor and is keept in oatmeal and stuff like that, and can refridgerated but Super worms is Zophobas atratus or Zophobas morio but its the same thing.. Super worms or Zophobas atratus lives in the forest floor, so they need soil and cant be refridgerated, they need it moist and needs fruit and stuff like that to live, they are native to Central and South America.. dont use beetles as food for your scorps

My P.cavimanus has eaten superworms on a few occasions. I just held it in front of her and let her do the rest. The rest of my insectavors (lizards and turtles) appsolutly love them which is why I've started a colony of my own. ~ Rex

Are you planning to make superworms its main diet?
Yeah.

To be honest though, I'm just following what the seller did. He told me he used superworms as the scorpion's main diet.

I think he's lying though.

I'm definitely going to have to switch to crickets. My emp scorp is refusing superworms and is scared of them.

I left one superworm inside the tank all last night. I fractured the superworm so it couldn't walk, but it was still alive. I just woke up right now and it hasn't been eaten.

I raise superworms in a bin of mulch and feed them wheat germ, fish food, and the occasional fruit. They grow fast (75'F) and I feed them to various T's and to Heterometrus and Pandinus occasionally without problems.

i am culturing super worms right now just for fun. some of my larger T's eat them. I used to feed them to the emperor scorpions at the Petco that i used to work at and everyone of them eat them.

if you want to culture feeder worms that all your T's will eat, then i would recommend mealworms. these guys saved me a lot of money.
whenever i need a small size or larger size worm to feed to my T's, there always are a few in my culture.
they are really easy to maintain. after you have everything set up, all you have to do is throw a piece of fruit in once a week.
