Such a pretty snake. I've looked for them around me for years and can never seem to find them. Plenty of rattlesnakes, but no copperheads.

Yeah, that's where I've done most of the looking ( been a few years though ) and all I could find were cotton mouths. To me, they're just not an attractive snake. Copperheads are gorgeous though. You find it very aggressive/defensive?

They usually tend to be a non aggressive snake unless provoked, then they will fight.I used to find them when i lived in Connecticut and New York State, but generally used to find them on the sides of steep rocky hills that were fairly close to water.I love their colors and patterns.

What state were you in when you found the cottonmouths? I don't believe this species ranges as far north as Connecticut.

Sorry to hijack the thread! That's a nice looking copperhead.

I was in CT. That what I was told it was. This was quite a few years ago and took their word for it and didn't research it at all. If I ever find the time, I'll have to go out and look again.

Again, beautiful snake. I'm sure my wife would have a fit if I ever came home with one, but she'd agree how beautiful they are.

Beautiful snake! Going back quite a few years, I've seen copperheads as far north as New Hampshire. Always on steep, rocky, ledge type terrain along steams, haven't had even a remote chance to catch one. Never came across a cottonmouth up here though, I was under the impression they aren't found were the water freezes over for the winter.

Probably right and just misidentified to me. :) Was dark and chowing on some small ( tiny ) trout in the stream.

Any more pics of your Copperhead?
