Very sad.

However, I feel it is my responsibility to point out that the ooze looks suspiciously like the cream from a Cadbury egg.

Oh, its just a chocolate egg that is mass produced and marketed at Easter time in North America.

The filling inside is like a sugar icing, made to look like yolk.

See here.

It has no real bearing on anything in your thread, except for the fact that whomever reads it will think of your poorly packed smithi when they have one of these things.

I tried to find an image of the cream filling, no luck. Anyone have one at home they can split open and photograph?

The dude that packed that needs to be beaten about the head and shoulders. I've only ordered from people on this board and they always come well packed.

The interesting part is that the other two larger specimens that i ordered from the same guy arrived safe and sound. i guess there should be some more humid tissue in the smithi cup.

If y'all have been keeping up with it... I've lost alot of spiders over the past two weeks from this problem...bad packing and/or mishandleing in the mail... so many busted abdomens.

I'm very sorry for your loss... its a sad thing to see...

there is a great thread on proper packing procedures...everyone should check it out!

Its bad enough when it can easily be replaced...its completely horrible when you searched long and hard to find a rare species..only to have your "gem" die in transit... Sorry again... smithi are great T's (they are my favorites!)

Thank you, Sheri. :)

Was there any other packing material on top of the spider or was it just like that?

it was in a shoe box, it recipient with the smithi was ontop of a recipient with another t. Anyways guys and girls, i think that there wasn;t enough humid tissues in there both to maintain a low temp and to prevent it from hitting the walls.

Thanks for the concerns.

i heard that Brazil has a special customs officer that shakes each and every box that enters the country, just to be sure nobody is smuggling any illigal animals in.

thats a myth, who shakes the boxes is the careless mail man. anyways this smithi didn't come from abroad. it was being looked after for months here in brazil.
