This is my new gopher snake that I caught while on vacation. He was very mean when I found him but is as nice now as any cb snake I have ever handled. He is about 4 feet long now. Very cool snake. Thought I would share.{D

cool snake.
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that potting soil/peat isn't the best thing to keep snakes on. the dust from them can cause respiratory infections if I remember correctly.

The potting soil was in his temp box. He has been moved to a 20 gallon glass tank with proper substrate.

He is pre-moult indeed. He has had the blue eyes for about 4 days now so it should be anytime. To bad I have to leave on vacation for a week tomorrow morning. I would love to watch.....:(

I was lucky enough to see my hognose shed a few weeks ago. Very cool!

Isn't this word reserved for inverts? :p Snakes shed their skin. Excuse me if it's just me that doesn't understand the english language. :?

Anyway Pituophis are very cool snakes. My first snake was a Pituophis. :)

Steffen I couldnt think of a better word, perhaps pre-shed but its an invert hobby website so the lingo will occasinally transfer over.
On another point when my hognose goes into pre shed his eyes will cloud for around 5 days, uncloud and then he will shed around 2 days after his eyes uncloud

Opaque is one of the terms more commonly used when the snake is in "pre-shed".

Yea for the most part i just hear people say the eyes are blurry or opaque and the snake will shed soon. Not many people ive met really call it pre-shed like its pre-molt on T's
