I got a baby Siren Lacertina last week. It's a cute lively little thing. I didn't realize what size I was getting and had a big tank set up for it. The little guy is only about 6 inches though so he's in a 10 gallon till he gets a little bigger. He's pretty shy but I did catch him out last night and took a few pics. He should grow to about 3 feet long.

No way! I have a couple of sirens. I've got S. intermedia. I only know the ones I have are S. intermedia because of where I caught them. Even people that really know their sals have a hard time telling the two apart. S. intermedia can bump up to 30 inches and from what I've read, the experts are still scratching their heads with some species. I used to really want a Greater siren like you've got. Do you know where it was caught? Did you have it shipped to you or did you get it at a pet store. Seems like they'd be kind of hard to ship. Cool dude you have there. It will grow FAST! Maybe you know this but be sure to cover the whole top, they will go ballistic now and then and will jump out of your aquarium if you have the water high like I like to keep it. I've lost some that way. They jumped out and dried up.

I had him shipped to me from Florida. It's supposedly a greater siren but he won't stay still long enough for me to count the coastal grooves. I'm going to try to get a good pic and count them that way.
He came shipped in a bit of moist spagham moss. I was kind of suprised he came that way, but I guess they can survive a while out of water as long as they stay moist. He has a screen top on his tank so he doesnt escape. The tank is only half full, but he's almost popped out a few times by zooming around the tank. I have some pipes for him to hide in and lots of fake plants but he likes to stay squished up in the corner against the fake rock wall. Silly thing.
