my first arachnid, a juvenile wolf spider the pictures, are very blurry, sadly, but i believe it is a hogna radiata. the last pic is of a pillbug isopod, one if it's tankamates.

there are two isopods, two beetles, and a bunch of insect larve which it has begun to feed upon. there used to be a garden centipede, but it was way too risky. let's see what jabba the hutt (C. Cranwelli) was too say about the myriopod.

this is a view of the terrarium in whole.

i just realised something: those larvae are mealworms. the tank (with substrate) used to belong to a group of mealmorm beetles, and it looks like i was successful in breeding them for food. and they are the perfect size for my little hogna to boot.

and on a side note, i can't wait until summer. that's when the D. Crocatas show themselves.

so, that's:

1. hogna radiata
2. Pterostichus melanarius
2. Armadillidium vulgare
i dare not count. tenebrio molitor

seriously, there's so many molitors, i'll have to call myself "mega-molitor"

have you ever seen a dysdera give a threat display?

it is the cutest/scariest thing i've ever seen! =P

i mean they are relatively small (esp. when compared to tarantulas) but have these ENORMOUS fangs they're flexing at you... i love it!

yep, and it'll be easy to feed, since isopods are almost as common as slugs where i live.

anywya, i know the pictures suck, but she is tiny, and it'll be easier after a molt or two.

turns out one molt was enough! she spun a web and now her outgrown exoskelton hangs like a flag. i was not there to witness it, but i was able to catch the results. here's some pics. additionally, i finally succed in a good pic. it's so clear, it's scary. hopefully, now you will be able to confirm my ID.

i would say:
keep taking pics the way you took the last shot =P

you should just tell everyone all the other pics were just teasers to get us interested =P

looks like it lost it's leg during the molt, ouch. *imagines her struggling around on the web until the leg snaps off*

yeah, i'll try. hard to get the lighting and angle right, without maker her run to the other side of the tank.

well, one could assume that, even though i admit to being a lousy photographer. =P

IMHO, the angles and lighting should be OK. Assuming you're using a digital camera, you might want to use the macro mode if you haven't, and don't over use the optical zoom.

Nice little habitat BTW!
