Hello all.

As you can see I am new here at Aracnoboards. I have been lurking for about a week, and reading up on some care tips here. You all have a wide varity of knowledge in dealing with T's and I thank you for sharing it with us new T owners. It is apreciated, most definately.

Anyhow, I thought I'd share...

She is my new little B.Smithi. Her name Cammie, short for Camilla. Camilla was taken from the Roman mythological Volscian warrior queen of the same name. (Also, Cammie can be short for Camoflouge...which she is most of the time.)

This is my first T I have ever owned. I find her very interesting to watch and the more I watch her, the more interests arise. She is mostly calm and mellow but is not shy to pounce a cricket when given the chance. I try not to bother her too much, but she has come out of her habitat a few times to see me.

I will try to post more pics as she ages.
Thanks for having me.

Note: I am only using the term "she" as a wishful thinking measure. :}

She is beautiful, and that's a very lovely post you wrote. Its nice to hear you adore your tarantula. Spread the word to others; tarantulas make great pets!
Have fun!

Nice spider! I'm a newbie to arachnids also, and I agree that this board is an invaluable resource. I wouldn't mind adding a smithi to my collection (one Lasiodora parahybana at this time) sometime in the future. :)

How big is it? I have a 3 inch B. smithi. That one is leggyier than mine. (I dunno if leggyier is even a word) :p

Be careful my friend - a great sage in the Arachno-community once imparted this little pearl when I was in the market for my first:
" Tarantulas are very much like potato chips, you can't have just one "
Welcome on board!

She's about 2"-2 1/2". I'm not sure how old she is. But, I'm sure she has a lot of growing and some molting to do. And if leggyier wasn't a word, it is now. lol. I know what your saying. She does have mildly long legs, but I think mostly it's just the angle/lighting of the pic that emphasizes the leggyness. Plus she is still young, and probably in that "awkward" stage in her life. hehe.

Do you have pics posted here, BLKCAT? I sure would like to see your T. **edit** NM, I found the pics of Tippy. {D Nice T. F/M? Molt yet?

Also, what kind of habitat do you have setup? What's your humidity/climate set at? What size tank are you using?

Thanks.

FYI. Grimlock = male. 29, cali...born and raised.

Tippy molted 1-20-05 from 2.5 to 3 inches. I sent the molt off and it is a she! I moved her to a 10 gallon split. She has one side and my A. seemani has the other. She has a plastic burrow. The heat lamp keeps it around 75-80F. Its the only way I can keep her out. If the temp drops much lower she will sit in her burrow all the time.
For humidity, I just keep her water bowl full. It usually stays around 50%.

Blk I would lose the heat lamp because she really doesn't need it. Ours is about 4" and has done fine in room temperature. Just keep the substrate dry and give her a water dish. I wouldn't let it get to cold in there if needed I would get a heating pad and place it on a side of a tank but make sure its something you can temperature control.

Welcome to the boards Grimm. We bought the B.smithi we have at 2" and about 2 yrs later its about 4" (we think its a male) and you will want more ppl around here will see to that :D
