I started a lateralis colony a few months ago and they're breading amazingly fast. I just found my second corps ever, which makes sense and found that it was covered in what I pretty much knew were mites. I looked at the under a microscope and they were. A couple questions:

1.) Can these mites probably transmit to my scorpions, T's, geckos, etc.? I assume they can.

2.) I've heard you can buy predatory mites to eat these ones. Good idea? does it really exist?

3.) What other suggestions do you have?

Thanks in advance

well. as far as i know the most suggested predatory mite is H. miles. and it wouldnt hurt to try them. also id say that there is a possibility to transfer them...by using the same utenciles between your pets.

I have had mites almost destroy two colonies of roaches. I prevent them now by keeping the enclosures a lot more dry and making sure to keep dead roaches out. I also keep the food as far as possible from the water. The little mites at first just eat dead roaches and roach food, but after a while they get on the roaches and then the roaches die. I got them in a hisser colony and I just moved the hissers to a new enclosure and washed the mites down the drain. With lateralis it's more of a pain to move them, so I'd be more inclined to give the enclosure a good cleaning out...remove whatever substrate or frass is going on, scrub out their food and water dishes, etc. Then try and keep them dry.

Of course, you only got mites on a couple of little dead lateralis, so you are fine for now. If you see them spreading out in the enclosure...on the food and on the walls, then worry. They reproduce fast under the right conditions.

yeah, we keep it really moist, and it's pretty much like you said. I've only found them on a dead one. there were alot though on the one. We'll remove the substrate and move the roaches and eggs.

Has nobody ever tried predatory mites?
