I am just getting back in to tarantulas after a several year break, but I have lots of other critters sharing my life 1 dog, 2 cats, 1 hamster and 3 rats!
I have been rescuing rats for years, usually from kids who get them from a pet store and can't care for them properly or they end up pregnant, that sort of thing.

If anyone ever needs rat info though, feel free to ask me. I have had 20 rats in the last 6 years and have become pretty knowledgable!

Here are my current rattie boys, Reno, Halion and Isaac in their Critter Nation cage, all 3 are neutered males.

Here is my little sunfire hamster Boomy in her castle (she lives in a 45 gallon long tank) with my cat Livi creeping behind the glass!

So adorable, I too am a rat fanatic ;)

I love how intelligent they are, capable of doing many tricks. They are very affectionate animals as well.

If that had been my cat the 45 gallon tank would be in pieces on the floor. Or the cat would be searching my tools for a glass cutter.

My cat watches little Boomy (the hamster) pretty much every minute that the hamster is awake, Boomy goes in her little run around ball for 15 minutes once or twice a day (whenever she begs to come out) and she chases the cat all over the house. It is hilarious to watch and it seems to entertain them both since they have been doing it every day for over 6 months lol.

I would love a rat. Cheaper than dogs but just as affectionate and smart? Yes! However, I wouldn't keep a hamster in an aquarium. Since she is a mammal when she comes out her ears are bombarded by sound because glass distorts it.

I LOVE rats but I'm SO ALLERGIC! ='(
Hairless rats should subside your allergies but. . . they require more maintenance
because they are more sensitive.

With rats the allergies usually come from the urine and saliva, which is always coating the claws and such so unfortunately they do not tend to help with allergies at all.
I always treated my hairless just like the rest of my rats, the only special care is a light coating of olive oil if their skin is dry and occasional treatment of pimples/blackheads that they are more prone to.
