Well I'm brand new here, but I figured the best way to introduce myself would be to show off my Tarantulas...hope none of you mind too much. :D I only have two in my collection so far, but hoping to add more soon. Some of the pictures are rather dark, but at least they are clear. Enjoy!

Grammostola rosea - aka: Edgar (yes she's a female with a male name :})

Edgar on my arm. ;)

Edgar saying hi!

She HATES it when I change her substrate...she'll be up there for hours punishing me for it, lol (You can see her small bald spot on her abdomen really well here...I bought her this way over a year ago...no problems so far. :D)

Aphonopelma seemanni - aka: Sparky (just picked up this little guy yesterday, so not many pics...still trying to figure out if its male or female...not very good at that sort of thing yet... :wall: )

Thanks guys for the kind welcomes and comments on my Tarantulas. :) I'm actually going to a rather large pet store this weekend that always has a bunch of Tarantulas for sale...maybe I'll have pictures of a new one here in a few days. ;)

Hehe, yeah, I'm already drooling over some of the pictures posted by other members. These spiders are just so amazing! And every time I look at http://www.swiftinverts.com/ I have to restrain myself... :rolleyes:

I think you guys and this site might be REALLY bad for my wallet... {D :}

Very nice - welcome. :)

As for your G. rosea - how often are you changing the substrate? Once per year or so should be fine. :)

Well see I'm learning things already, hehe. :D I've been changing the substrate about every 4 months. I believe I read that somewhere, so I went with it. But heck, if it only needs to be done once a year, then yay for me saving on substrate costs. :}

Does this apply for all spiders/tarantulas, or just the ones that don't web alot?

For adults, about once per year is fine (with their yearly molts) - slings often outgrow their containers more than once per year.

Of course, if you see mold or anything else like that, then it's a good idea to do a change. However, I only change once per year at the most for adults (if there are no problems).

If the T webbs the substrate up it is easy to do a quick clean. Just swirl a small stick in the webbing and it will gather on the stick along with the top layer of substrate and cricket parts etc..

Welcome to AB and thanks for sharing your spiders with us.

Thanks for the replies becca and Shelob. :) Good things to know. Maybe I can keep my Edgar a bit happier from now on, and prevent her wall climbing tantrums. :rolleyes:
