At Last! I can post in this forum!:D

I went out to my local exotic pet store yesterday to buy a tub of crickets for my scorps. Whilst there I always check out the inverts just in case they have the odd rare scorp in there. This time there were no scorps. Just hundreds of large various coloured tarantulas. I was told that they had bought a collection off someone as he had become ill and could no longer look after them. I had been contemplating etting one for a while but was a little unsure. Well, yesterday I took the plunge! I am now the proud owner of Atrax robustus!............erm, maybe not! I bought a HUGE mexican red knee. It is absolutely goreous! I have never seen one close up before, it is as if it is made of velvet. There were about four of them, I chose the one that hadn't got a bald abdomen. I have handled it on several occasions and it seems very docile. Had trouble persuading it to go back in the tank though!
If all goes well with this one, I may consider getting another!;)

Hope I havent bored everyone! Just had to share my excitement!

Cool! Where's the shop? I'll travel a few miles for a bargain. Did they have an adult male B.smithi? Here's a pic of my adult female. Does yours look THIS good?

Freshly molted B.smithi

I got 2 juvi B.smithi's myself, eventually theyll be a mating pair. I would have taken a T with a balding ab, b/c at least with those you can accurately tell when she may molt insted of going insane with lack of patience posting "why wont she eat" lol

Wow!
Thanks for the welcome everyone!
I have spent hours today just watching the tank!

Luther, The shop is between wolverhampton and Kidderminster and is called Prestwood aviaries. Unfortunatley they do not do mail order. The other spiders they had wich I can remember are

Brachypelma sp. labelled red leg

a cobalt blue (not up on their scientific names sorry!)

Zebra tarantula? This one was very nice and I was very tempted. Decided to stay for something simpler though!

I bought a digital camera today so I can (hopefully)share a pic of my beauty!

She is a beauty Richard and the Cobalt Blue is a H.Lividium(there mean) and I think the Red Leg is the B.Auratum and the Zebra well there is the A.Seemanni (Costa Rican Zebra) and the Pink Zebra Beauty (another awesome beginner species)

Huh?

Maybe I missunderstood...

Did you say you have a cobalt but didn't get the zebra cause you wanted to keep it simple?

That's like saying I got a Pit Bull but I decided to stay away from the Weenie dog cause I'm scared of big dogs. =D

Now we know why Egyptians used pyctograms, right?;P (Yah, I know that's not what they used... it's a joke! )

Excellent choice on your first T though, and the post is not boring at all. We all love hearing about new converts to our "religion"! (hehe):D

Good luck with your B. smithi Richard_uk. My first was a B. smithi too, she's really feisty though, she's kicked hairs at me several times. Everyone is right though, you'll end up with more T's, it's a total addiction. I've only had my B. smithi for a few weeks and the week after I got her I went back to the pet store and picked up a G. rosea and an A. versicolor. I've been pinching pennies with groceries even so I can save up to get more at the reptile show here in October too, lol.

Great choice, Richard_uk!!! :D You will love this species very much. I have got one B smithi, too. Mine is about 2,5 - 3" now. It molted about a week ago and I found out it is a male. And what a beautiful male :D Anyway, mine is very calm and docile... It has even never kicked his hair on me :)
