Hi all. I have been lurking around these boards for a week or so. Lots of great info. The mods are a bit psycho with stickies, search nazi-ing, etc, but a great community.

So, I am a recovering bug-o-phobe, and I got a G. rosea as a reward for conquering my fear. Her name is Sofia. I am already thinking of getting more!

I still have never handled a spider (or anything like it, for that matter). I tried to make a video of me handling her for the first time, but I chickened out. I will post it when I succeed.

I'm a Noob as well and I can't handle my G.Rosea or my 1" B.Smithi....My G.Rosea charged me the other day when I tried to pick up her water dish to clean it soooo I need to get my nerve up! I mean, I'm an adult....right?

Welcome to AB! :) and congrats on the new T! My first T was a G. rosea too, I love her to death. She's a real sweetheart.

Welcome to the boards also! My G. rosea sometimes has days like that, every T will get spooked occasionally and spazz - it happens :D she just needs to get used to you moving her terrarium and doing maintenance (cleaning out poop/leftover food particles, cleaning her water dish, etc.) believe it or not, they get used to that and won't be so skittish. Mine was very skittish after I first got her, but in time she calmed down to the point where it didn't bother her.

I hate to bring this up but I'm using peat moss and I don't see any poop....I do see spider webs all over the bottom of the cage I mean, does it ball up mixed in with the peat or something? I know,I know, such a Noob question and I did do a search and could not find out such things as this or where to buy Vermiculite....Ace Hardware does not sell it anymore in Arizona so I was told...weird! Home Depot 50 lb bag....over kill.:?

This search turned up a few things. Try other search terms. I have quickly learned that using google.com to search is more productive for me. You might find the same. If you put "site:arachnoboards.com" after your search terms, you will get results only from this forum.

It's nice to see another newbie! I just added a lot more substrate to mine. I use coco fiber. I make it as dry as possible. At first it was too moist, but now it's drier, and she seems happier.
