Just happened! :D

I just had my first ever T mating, a pair of H. lividums! Successful! It was a beautiful pairing, and an awesome cleaning dance by the girl (whom I recently got from Thiscordia. Thanks!)

I am just far to excited to really post a decent message now! {D

Congratulations! I've been pondering breeding that species. Despite the fact that it's a pet hole...H. lividum is still in high demand.

I wouldnt really say that its high in demand. I mean, I just dont see people talking about how much they want a lividum. Not trying to rip on you or anything Scotty, but thats my $0.02

Well I'm not too concerned about the demand aspect...but they gotta be pretty popular if hundreds, if not thousands are shipped to the US every year.

I'm more concerned with the fact that about 99.9% of the H. lividums in captivity are wild caught. I have still to this day never seen a captive bred cobalt blue, and if no one does anything, sooner or later this species will become threatened, and so on and so forth. So I'm more for the conservation of the species more than the money.

Anyway, enough talk of Arachnonomics(just made that one up myself :} ), and more congratulating the OP on his pairing!

PS-I'm not offended one bit by anything you said :)

To be honest that wasn't something I even considered when I bred this pair. This lividum male was the 4th male in a row I've had mature (P. irminia, L. parahybana, and G. rosea) all of which I tired to find someone to do a 50/50 with (no luck on any) and when this guy hooked out I thought "screw it! I am doing this myself!" {D

Congrats on the pairing! Maybe Ill buy a few if you have em for sale in the future. ;)
Thanks!
Well if everything goes as planned I certainly won't be keeping all the little slings to myself, but I am trying my darnedest not to count my slings before they hatch...or eggs before they are lain!:D

Assuming all goes well I will let you know when I get ready to sell them.

I have still to this day never seen a captive bred cobalt blue,
There were a few of us that hatched them this year. They are around.

To the OP:
Congrats on the pairing. Though cobalts are typically defensive, mine have been quite placid toward each other when I've paired them. Great choice for a first breeding project.

Thanks! My male was captive bred around 2.5 years ago. This pair didn't act at all aggressive toward each other the first time, but the male is acting quiet a bit more nervous this time around...{D

This pairing just finished I got some pictures. I think the camera flash may have encouraged a rather quick pairing. The female was sitting very low in the burrow and the male just couldn't get under her, and it seemed like he lost interest and just started walking away. The female then came completely out and the male tried again, the female was rocking back and forth which made it quiet hard on the male. It LOOKED like he got a good insert, be got underneath her for a short instant and then backed off quickly. The female did a very abbreviated furrow cleaning dance, just a few short strokes and then back down her burrow she went. Her first cleaning dance took a good minute to a minute and a half. So I am not sure if this was a good pairing or not. I plan on trying at least once more, I will post pictures tomorrow or the next day of tonight's pairing.

Im not trying to say that just because they arent high in demand that this isnt cool.

This is AWESOME.

Any T breeding is really cool. To me, it doesnt matter how rare the T is. I mean, I got an A.hentzi sac earlier in the summer and I have an obt that may be laying on a sac right now, and they arent exactly high in demand either.

Any captive T breeding is something to be proud about. Especially a less commonly bred species like H.lividum.

Anyways, try pairing them a few more times, just to be 100% sure that he gets at least one good insert. I paired my A.hentzi couple 3 or 4 times. But one insert will do the trick, My obt male got one insert before the female impailed him, and the female has been inside of her recently webbed up hide for a couple weeks (probably sitting on a sac).

But like I said, pairthem a few more times, just to be sure.

Good luck! I hope you get a nice fat sac from her.

:? What's a "cleaning dance?"

I give you props for breeding these. I used to want these tarantulas but now I'm not quite so sure since they hardly ever leave the burrow. Least I see my slings every night.

That is most likely in reference to the frantic scratching the female does after an insertion by the male. As soon as they are done she "freaks out" and with her back legs starts scratching her vent. It is quite funny really. It is a nice checkpoint when pairing cobalts. I have video of this, but it is posted elsewhere and I have no intention of taking away from the OPs thread.

Feel free to link it here! I was far to excited to operate a video camera! :D I have heard it referred to as "cleaning dance" "furrow cleaning" ect. I am sure there is a proper term for it but I have never bothered to look it up (if anyone knows please post it).
