he's not in with the live fish. he is a common goldfish and the other(live) gold fish are fan tails.

He isn't. The first is a picture of the deceased, and the second and following are images of his old 'room mates'.

Aidan

Edit:(You beat me too it cichlidsman! :p Yeah, I noticed the fantail in there, I wouldn't have known if I didn't work at a pet store)

Your tank looks colourful. I really like it.
Excuse my ignorance; but is that a blue lobster in there?

The pet store sold them as blue lobster, but they are crayfish. Still they are pretty cool. This one is 5 or so years old and a little bigger now. his mate jumped out of the tank a year before this pic. These crayfish are easy to breed.

the crayfish must have hit a growth spurt or something because he molted again last night(the second time this summer).

How do they moult? Does it turn on its back like our eight legged friends? What colour is it right after the moult? Do you know where they live in the wild?

Sorry about all the questions, it's just that the little guy fascinates me. I have actually never heard of them before, are they rare in Europe? Do you breed them yourself? For how long do they live?

Hehe... That was all I think.
Thank you in advance, Cichlid. :)

I have never seen them molt, because they do it form the time i turn off the light till the time i turn it on again. sorry. I myself would like to see this.

they are almost brown when they are young. Right after the molt they seem to be a pale blue, but after a few days, they get darker blue. They have red dots going up the tail and headpeace that seem to get darker ever molt.

I am not sure were they are from, but i think that they are form Florida.

Yes i have breed them myself. All you have to do is put 3-4 (to keep 4 you will need a 30gal tank or bigger) in a tank togather for a while and wait. But if you know how to sex them then, 2 in a 10gal will work. When you see the female walking around with her tail curled up all the time(i recomend that you then put her in another tank with some fish in there. you have to make sure that the fish are not goldfish and that they were in there for a while, without a water change. We call that cycled water) and she has like a hundred little eggs under there, she is pregnat. She will carry these eggs for around 2-3 months or so.

I have bought my first one at 2" around 5 years ago. Now She is around 6-7". Sorry to say that is all i have left now. I gave away all the babys and the male jumped out of the tank and crawled away. I never found him untill it was too lait. I think they go for around $15each.

If i knew how to ship them i would sell them for $3-$5

Jay Vincent (Greenbottle lov here on AB), who cooked the crayfish for the ATS conference has said he finds several blue ones in his crayfish ponds every year.
