My current non invert and non reptile project

Well since i no longer keep snakes or inverts i have gotten into keeping native fish.

What species are they? They look kind of like sygnathids.

Looks like a baby longnose gar, cool looking. I found a baby alligator gar on some floodplain but I killed it while I was cleaning it's aquarium. Those are hard to find around here so it bothered me for a while. Where'd you get the little dude.

a friend up north found them and is sending them to me
going to try to breed them eventually

They get pretty big, seems breeding might be a little difficult. Sometimes you can catch 1000s of babies on flood plain around a river. The water goes up, they lay eggs, it goes back down and the eggs hatch in land-locked puddles.
