My collection part II - UPDATED!

-

UPDATED 1/4/06
- AWESOME MEGAPHOBEMA ROBUSTUM PICTURES! :D

Hey all,

Well the beginning of a "new era" in my collecting has come just in time for the new year!

I received my first T's today and will be attending the reptile show in a week to add more. I will use this thread and update hopefully regularly with pictures. Maybe I'll use it as some sort of journal as well but I don't want to kill the overall theme of it. Anyway without further adu here are some images of my first T's.

I'd like to thank Kelly (KJE) for being a great hobbyest from dealing to shipping and obviously caring for these species as you can see they are in tremendous condition!

I don't think the B. Albopilosum enjoys flying. :D The B. Smithi also looks to be nearing premolt as indicated prior to being sent! The PZB is surprisingly my favorite of the bunch and it wasn't even the two of the three that I really wanted, extremely hand friendly and not shy at all, also much larger then I expected and it's colors are amazing.

Congrats! It's so exciting to get a shipment of T's in the mail...it's like Christmas! {D B. albopilosum and E. campestratus were two of my first as well and they are both great T's. Good luck with your new babies!

Thanks for the pics! I'm so glad they arrived safely. It does look like the B. smithi and B. albopilosum flicked quite a bit of hair during shipping. The B. albopilosum wasn't missing any hair when I packed it. Oh well, I guess that shows just how stressful flying can be. It looks like they are going to have a wonderful home with you. I hope you enjoy them for many years to come.

Very nice additions! I love the E. campestratus species myself. They are great to start with!

LOL! Thats what my friends said to me but I tried to explain these spiders were going to be in my possession anyway. It's such a difference seeing them in person then on the internet in images, so much more compelled to buy! :D

I will probably do some revamping. I still only have 8 T's. I don't expect to get much more, it's certainly managable. :)

What is a collection without a A. Versicolor?!

A. Minatrix adult female! These were taken before I figured out how to use macro mode and flash properly :)... they don't do her justice

P. Rufilata.. this spider is one of the best looking in my opinion!

P. Regalis adult female, dinner is SERVED.. she is certainly a feisty one, took the cricket mid air!

Curly hair certainly not one to shy away from the camera unlike her two neighbors (Smithi and PZB).. Smithi has actually made a solid burrow completely hiding from all view! Guess it likes it's privacy. As stated before it looks to be in premolt stage, I dropped a cricket in there to see if it'll take it. I'll check on it later in the day. The PZB is munching away right now. I took it out today and it is very pretty and easy to show off.

Randomness, the Robustum dance and kick is really cool. I thought of a spider that read a 2.0 or maybe it's just tonight. :)

Check out my review on Megapets shop in the petstore review forum. This is where I got my T's from today and it is a great place to go. I will be going back again to add to my collection.

Right now I want a P. Metallica after seeing it but that is probably not happening. I will do some research on breeding and will be attempting to breed the Robustum and Minatrix sometime in the future.

Just got done moving the two grown up girls into more fitting enclosures as well as my Rufilata juvie and Versicolor Sling. I ended up getting some great shots of the Robustum in the process!

The moving was smooth and easy for all but the Rufilata - more on that later. I have a lot more to do however since I am not too pleased with my set ups for my other smaller T's.

I use the bathroom always to make any changes in the enclosure as I don't like to leave a mess in my room, it's spacey and by chance it's easy to close off in case a T runs away. That would be the Rufilata, wow is that thing fast and agile. As soon as I placed it into it's new enclosure, I was getting ready to take some pictures then bam it climbed up the glass with the opening and jumped off a good 4 feet to the grown, fortunately it was alright. All in the same motion, it ran off into a corner of the bathroom which was a pain in the butt to get it out of ultimately after a couple runs and actual attack poses (albeit provoked) I was able to place it safely in the enclosure.

EDIT: Imageshack is not letting uploads be seen at the moment, I guess I'll have to wait till tomorrow for the pics :(

great looking ts you have there...and your pics are awesome. some of those are already on my future list, now some new ones are heh. but there is one thing i was wondering about. maybe i'm wrong since nobody else mentioned it, but it seems to me that all of your enclosures are extremely moist. i know extra humidity is vital for certain species but i keep all of mine on much much drier substrate and they all do fine. i've never had a versi sling though, which i hear are more sensitive to humidity levels. was just thinking something like that could possibly lead to mold.

Hey thanks!!

You're out on the Isle? that's cool I'm from Queens. Check out Megapets (exit 42 off the LIE) if you don't know about it already, that's where more then half my collection has come from including this big girl.

You're right about the moisture! The pictures where taken immediately after the enclosures were set so I started it off moist, probably too moist, and let it dry out and maintain. I also misted a few of them prior to taking pictures. I wish I could post the new pictures now, they are a real treat. You'll also see the new enclosure for the Robustum is not as moist as the ones posted before. I think using peat moss rather than vermiculite as the substrate had a lot to do with this.

The versi-sling there was in it's container that I bought it in. I was not aware of this but I was advised to keep it in that once I bought it and planned to except the lid actually is broken off not making it secure at all so I ended up giving it a new home today. I don't remember the exact reason why but I do believe it had to do with sensitivity about something so perhaps you're right.

You're right about the molding. I'm already seeing it in the wooden "housing" for the B. Smithi. Tomorrow or soon I plan to give it a new home and will use exclusively cork or other things which do not mold.
