So, I spent the whole day at school, so pretty much missed the entire show, but boy was I happy when I got home an my T had molted. This is my first tarantula and my very first molt. I've had her since the 2nd. So only a little over two weeks. Very happy. Learning lots.
Anyone know when I should expect a second molt. She is probably about an "1 big, not counting legs? As if she molts more frequently then that might mean she's a he, right?
Well...thanks for putting up with the rookie peon post. I'm just a happy father.

Congrats!

hey there, congratulations, I don't know why my T's last molt was, seeing as I got.. her I think.. XP Saturday. So i'm still new at this, I just as a matter of fact redid her substrate today, it was just before, barkchips, mulch, a thin layer, thats no go for the Terrain goers from what I read. She is a Rosie.

Expect your next molt in 30-60 days. You'll want to let your chaco rest and leave in in a quiet, dark place for a few days. Make sure it has some water by dribbling a few drops down the side of her cup so they moisten the soil on one side and make a little puddle for it to drink from.

Congratulations!

How's it housed, by the way?

It's actually in a ten gallon tank. And I'm already thinking about getting a G. Rosea that is almost full grown, cuz I can get a good deal. And moving my Chaco to a much smaller size tank. I think she has way too much room.

Thanxz for all the advice everyone.

Yes, I understand when you say, "Goodbye spending money."

You're right. 10 gallons is on the large side for even a full grown chaco. For a sling it's ludicrously big. if you set your sling up in the smallest size kritterkeeper it should be ok for a while. Common pracyice says not to put a t under 2" in a kk but at 1.5" you would probably be ok. Just look at the t's carapace (the part the legs attach to) and make sure it can't fit through the slits or the hole where the handle attaches. If it looks close then it probably CAN escape. The abdomen is very flexible and they can squeeze it through astonishingly small spaces.

As an alternative to a kk you could get any tupperware/gladware/ziplock tub that holds about a pint, poke some holes in it add substrate and your t and it's good to go! Slings don't need or even want a lot of space.

Ethan,
Very good advice. I will take it to heart. I have a good size tupperware. One that is 6 quart, a little big for a sling I'm sure. But it can be probably be a good permanent home for her. And I think I'm going to pick up full grown a female G Rosea for only $20. what do you think?

Anyone? Everyone?

Casey, if you are talking a molt confirmed female, then I say go for it. If it is ventrally confirmed, I'd be a little leary of the gender ID, but still a good price for a rosea.

5 Now

Well, thanks to the Unique Animal Expo, I'm up to 5 T's now and one praying mantis NOW. I had so much fun though, and I really didn't spend that much dough. Not even a hundred altogether so it was worth it.
Man, there was some cool stuff there. Sugar Gliders. Wildcats. Porcupines.
NUTS!!!
