This is a first for me.

Is there anything that can be done? I do mean anything...

I don't know when exactly he flipped, some time between 9pm Saturday and 4om on Sunday. Around 9pm on Sunday night I noticed his fangs had flared, and his abdomen took that shriveled appearance. I just got home from work and nothing has changed.

When would you, with absolutely nothing to lose, flip to see if there is any intervention to be done? I'm willing to do whatever it takes. I believe I have nothing to lose here.

The longest successful molt I have found document on the boards was 24 hours, a G porter I believe.

Suspect penultimate Xenesthis immanis. My two females both molted in the last week. This molt was expected. Molt mat built an everything.

Thank you.

Update. I've been filming, no movement whatsoever. I broke the cardinal rule and I wish I'd done it sooner. He had popped his carapace and appears to have gotten stuck in the fangs. They are stuck and obviously bulging around the old set. His abdomen skin appears free as well, hence the shriveled skin look. Sternum appears attached from what I can see.

That’s rough- I’d wait it out, but that’s me. I also never interfere with molts. They make it or they don’t- for me.

If you feel you have zip to lose, then in the absence of new info, you could do whatever you wanted. It’s risky- if the little fella is just taking a long time to molt, would be damaging.

Tough call

Thank you for stopping by Viper. ❤ I broke the cardinal rule but I can see he has popped his carapace, and appears to have gotten stuck in his fangs. They have expanded significantly around the old set. I think it's too late and his sternum is very much attached. No response to me getting a better view/moving his legs.

In my reading I came across an old post that offered instructions on a very invasive procedure but OP never responded. Boina's protocol is conditional on the sternum and carapace being free.

I will give him a little more time.

Thank you again.

So sorry <3
I have heard of some molts taking around 72 hours, we can always be hopeful.

It's dead. It already has some of its parts started, it shouldn't have taken that long to finish.

Unfortunately, if it has already popped the carapace and abdomen, and you didn't get any response or seen any movement, it has died. That's too bad, sorry!

Thank you both for your honesty. It's reassuring to hear from you guys. I thought so when nothing happened overnight. I was just hopeful that it was taking so long because he was about to reveal his hooks. One way or another it revealed his destiny.

I won't give up in him until he shows me proof of death. Thank you for being in his corner, friend.

I think not moving at all even with you intervening is the sign. That's the proof of death.

Yeah! I heard Tom Moran, Toms Big Spiders, he had a T. stirmi that took 72-73 hours.
Please keep us updated. ❤
That’s insane I’ve never had a t survive a molt that took longer than 15 hours. And I’ve never been able to save a badly molted or stuck t before.

I don’t follow specific rules, when i sense something is off. Everytime, it worked, and i learned something I could not have known how to ask.

i hope its a magical tarantula that suddenly comes back to life.

last two molts i had, the tarantulas seemed to be getting stucked. I nudged and it was done.

i wouldnt recommend this to someone who just got a tarantula and isnt even confident enough yet with feedings. But i think we need to have room to expirement. i take the room anyways, for myself.

He's gone, even by my stubborn standards. His abdomen is showing signs of cardiovascular collapse. This might be dumb or circumstantial but his eyes don't even catch the light.

I am going to bury him under a pollinator plant so he can give life to something else.

Thank you guys for being "here." ❤

I’m so sorry😢 I was hoping this post was recent and that he would bounce back, then I looked at when you posted and saw the date. I wish there was a way we could assist them when molts go bad that was successful, but at least he lived a good life❤
