I just wanted to share some pictures of my new boa (sexed female by the vendor I bought her from) that I got a couple of weeks ago. She is about 20 inches long so she's very young. I like her quite a bit and I'm going back to the same show at the end of this month to browse and maybe get a new one. So please enjoy and comment on the pictures and give me some suggestions on some of your favorite snakes. It can be any kind of snake, just not venomous.

Thanks,
-Jake Huff

And this is one on the first day I got her.

Thats a pretty hypo boa for sure. If you do enjoy them why don't you just get a mate for it, but if not then get something like a ball python or some sort of colubrid.

are you interested in small or large snakes? For small, hognose snakes are cool. They can be aggressive feeders though. Sand boas are pretty awesome, as are rosy boas. If bigger is your thing, you could get an arboreal snake like a amazon tree boa or a gtp. Rainbow boas are awesome as well.

Give me more info on what interests you.

You know you're not going to stop at just one Boa! Don't you know that they're like potato chips-you never can have just one? Why not look for a Jungle male to pair up with her later, or a Motley, if you've got a bit more cash burning a hole in your pocket? Hypo Jungles are some nice-looking snakes.

I'm not a fan of ball pythons, but I've been researching hog nose snakes and Brazilian rainbows. I really like both of them. But I'm keeping my options open. I'll look up jungles too and check them out. Any other suggestions guys?

Carpet pythons, carpet pythons, carpet pythons lol. I'm also partial to amazon tree boas but they're not much fun in the personality dept. all the ones I've kept were for the most part vile but that's just some of the fun.

I'm starting to think that I may get more than one new snake at this next show. Right now I'm considering a western hognose, an apricot pueblan milk snake, and a brazilian rainbo boa. But I'm keeping my options open. Price is no problem. I just spent money on my school books for this semester, and parts formy car, so I think I'm going to treat myself to some new critters before the semester starts up again. So price is no problem.

Western hognose are just awesome. You definitely couldn't go wrong getting one of those.

I guess I should throw out a shoutout for the species I've got: Lamropeltis triangulum andesiana, the Andean milk snake. These are typical tri-color milks. They're not particularly flashy in coloration as individual red and yellow scales also have black tips on them. This effect gets more pronounced the bigger the snake gets, leading to seemingly less crisp colors than some other milk snakes. But did I mention they get big? They're definitely one of the larger sub-species of milk snake. Large individuals can get up to about six feet in length. Since they're a montane species, they also do well at slightly cooler temperatures than many popular species of snake.

Nice boa by the way.

Are the hognose snakes reasonably docile and handleable? Also I read that they have fangs?

They are rear fanged, but they REALLY have to chew on you to use those fangs. We have 1 adult male that is as calm as can be,and 3 juvies. (2 females and 1 male)I can handle all of them, but the small females are puffy/hissy little suckers. They are all bluff though, and have never struck at me with an open mouth, only head-butted.They really do think they are 10 feet tall and bulletproof.Never had a feeding problem with them, and they are almost always out and about exploring/hissing.We are not into snakes AT ALL,but these guys were just too awesome to resist.

Great looking snake! One day I'll get a snake. My turtles take up all the space right now. I love snakes.

+1 hognose . Very fun and active .

My girl has bit me 4xs but it's no big deal, she chews on you for 5mins and lets go. Just turns red and itches for a bit .

If you're up to the dance with an aggressive snake and ready for a challenge, try out the viper boa.

Well since you have one codominant mutation why not get another? Jungle is a codominant color and patten mutation. Motley is a codominant pattern mutation. Hypomelanistic is color and pattern. Reduced black and bow tie saddles... i have 7 boa constrictors in my collection. All but one is a Morph. Each one different! Pm me if you want to have a detail chat.:photogenic:

Haha. This is bad. I want so many. It will be like like my tarantula collection use to be. I started with one and I had 200 before I downsized. I'm going to a local breeders house on sunday to view his avaible snakes (MANY!) and then I'm going to the Cheswick reptile showon Aug. 27th.
