Haha yup, my fingers will be as far away as possible from their mouths when they put some size on them. Right now the Black Throat is only around 13" and the Tegu is about 20"

Haha, I love the names!

Just make sure you don't feed Gizmo after midnight, get water on it, or leave it in bright light...

Hahaha right on! Exactly where I got the name from. I went to a petstore today, and I saw an adult B/W tegu today. So cute. I honestly can't wait till he gets to a good size.

My friend has one of these (B&W), and I really like it. He handles it a lot and one day stuck it in my arms. I thought that was pretty sweet, but then he said that I was lucky to be able to hold it, because they are typically nasty lizards. Seemed pretty cool though. Yours look beautiful!

Thanks, I sure hope mine ends up being male because I love the big jowels that this species gets if male. Plus males are bigger. :) I'll still love it the same if it ends up female though.

I think your friend is mistaking something because B&W tegus are actually known to be quiet tame lizards. They can actually learn their name like puppy dogs if tamed enough in the right away. There is a different species of tegu, the golden tegu, which is smaller in size, but much more defensive.

Cool! I'd love to get one, but can they do some damage to fingers..like take them off? I'm a musician by trade, and can't afford to lose a finger...

Haha, I'm sure once they're older they have the potential to do some serious damage, but that's why you get them young and tame them down. Oh and of course hope for the best because accidents do happen. Keeping your fingers from the "dangerous" end would be a good idea too. B&W tegus are pretty tame by nature so you really don't have to worry about them too much, atleast not as much as black throat monitors and what not.

Haha you just gotta make sure that they have a good amount of humidity because if their toes don't shed right they'll damage and fall off.

Yeah, I've seen that happen with some of the monitors at the LPS. Poor guy is missing several digits, but not entire toes.

Here is their current homes. :D The tegu is in the big one at the moment, which is 6ftx3ftx2ft. It will go to the black throat when he gets older, and I will get another cage similar in size(probably a little smaller) for the tegu.

They are goreous!!! I would love to have one but I don't have the space inside and the climate outside would kill it. Maybe when I get a bigger place
