Hey everyone! I'm so excited to share...I bought my 1st T 1 year ago and last weekend he had his mature molt, which was totally surprising to me because I never had him sexed and what surprise it was to see him after the molt. It's like..."It's a boy". So I was kinda bummed since we were hoping for a female and i couldn't find a female anywhere here in AZ, cuz I only wanted 1 spider, being my first and all, because the females live so much longer. So he comes out a "boy" over the weekend and I go and track down a Female Chaco Golden Knee stripe and WOW...what a sweetheart. She is so mellow and so was my male, but now that he's matured, he has CHANGED! Kind of reminds me of my ex wifes mood swings now. LOL I went to move him into the cup so I could change his tank and he got pissed and started to attack the stick! Do males usually do this after their final molt?
Anyways, this is my first posting here and I'm trying to get used to the site. Enjoy the pic of "Charlotte". I'm looking forward to years with this one.

If anyone out there has ever breeded Chaco's (Grammastola aureostriatum) before, I'd love to hear all about it. I'm thinking of giving it a whirl

See ya later, Scooter

I watched an aquaintance of mine breed their's and it didn't look too hard. Took a few minutes for the female to become receptive, but once she did, they went right at it.

well mature males are like virgins that have less than a year to live... the only thing they want is... well you know where i'm going with this.

Yeah, I wish I could find someone with a mature female to take my MM for breeding. Don't want to waste him.

Hey thanks for the post! I feel so lucky that I found this female when I did. Has your male had his mature molt yet? Mine is like a highly sexually frustrated man now LOL He attacked my stick today for the first time ever. Has he ever been aggressive towards you?

Keep in touch.

Hilikus311,
It was crazy too...like I said, this spider was my first, only picked it up once when he was like 2 inches and since then, totallly docile, NEVER showed aggresssion. Plus, the Chaco's are one of the top recommended for newbies since they are so docile. But I've done some research and I think its the whole mature molt thing and sexual frustration. {D

by the way, do you know the sex of yours that you are getting? how old?

Keep in touch

It's possible he hit his pre-mature molt, but IMO he's hit his MM molt just by his size.

I would give him away if someone had a mature female and I could get a couple slings if the breeding was successfull.
