Hi guys!

Suddenly I noticed a couple of mushrooms starting to grow in my terrarium.
Can they be harmful for tarantula? Is this ok? What should I do?

Thanks!

I'm going to assume this is a tarantula that requires high humidity? I'm pretty sure the mushroom itself won't hurt the spider, but the conditions that allow mushrooms to grow might be hazardous. Can you get a picture of your setup? Sounds like you might want a little more ventilation.

What species of tarantula?
Some mushrooms can be very toxic.
As far as I know, only the Tripping tarantula (Psilocybe cubensisvoratori) would eat mushrooms, and I'm fairly certain close proximity wouldn't bother any of the others.

On a more serious note; with venting on just the top, it's difficult to get decent circulation.
If the sliding doors are plexiglas, you could melt or drill some holes to up the airflow some. If they're glass, you could perhaps replace them with plexi. (...unless you have the proper tooling to drill glass.)

They don't eat them, but I'm remembering a couple of threads discussing specific type(s) of fungi/mushrooms that are toxic by exposure, or if the spores get in the tarantula's water source. I just can't locate the threads right now. (May have been on a different site.)
Wondering about the T species. From the picture provided, appears to possibly be a Brachypelma or Aphonopelma species. Neither of which should be kept on substrate damp enough to support mushrooms.

I thought that the spores don't contain the sometimes toxic chemicals that the mushrooms produce? Is this wrong?

I don't know enough about 'shrooms... I was hoping someone with a botany background would chime in. :)

I've had mushrooms grow in my tanks before. I just kept pulling them since I've nothing in there that will eat em up afterwards, when they turn into "jam". Eventually they just stopped popping up, though they seem to pop up again at least once a year. Never had any problems either. I've learned to not worry too much about mold.

I know abraxascomplex(sp?) on here just let's em grow wild, but his tanks have a ton of detritivores that will take care of all that leftover gunk.

Yeah, I've had them grow in some of my cages as well.
When I notice them, I just pick them out. I kind of like the way they look.

Careful the boil, sterilize, bake, coconut choir, peatmoss,Natural substrate and wild caught food police will be all over you if you do not respond to what is "accepted" by there standards on the "board" LOL
Mushrooms are nothing to worry about IME.

Intersting, I wonder how the mushroom spores get in since most substrate is heat treated to kill off fungus.

Spores travel in the air.
As soon as you open your microwave/oven, your freshly "sanitized" substrate will be contaminated with new spores, And they'll have the remains of newly nuked things to feed off of as they grow.

There is a yellow mushroom that effects almost all my enclosures from time to time, they have always seemed to go away then pop up randomly.
