This is mudpit. He is a pyxicephalus adspersus, 6 months old, and 5 inches. Love these african giants!

LOL...I dont think so. I just picked this one up a couple of days ago. I saw it for sale and it made me think of the other three monsters I had so I bought it.

Thats cool. I still might get one of these sometime. Any problems with maggots from flies getting into their enclosures?

Are these guys Ranids, or Ceratophrids?

Or something else entirely?

EDIT: Nevermind, the shape of their jaws gives it away. They're Ranids.

Catfishrod, LOL!! Thanks for that good laugh. Now I'll sleep better tonight.

Speaking of catfish, the blues have been tearing it up around here lately. Can't wait to wet a line but at the rate work is going, they'll be shut off once I can go............................. \-:

I just figured from the constant moisture and humidity, it would get phlorid flies in there really fast. Ive only kept whites tree frogs, and they got in with them.
How would maggots get in there enclosure?

Haha your very welcome.

I wish we had blues here. Just shovelhead, channels, bullheads. I have heard about blues being around, but dont believe it. Never seen one in person.

Oh ok...As long as I have dealing with big pixies, pacmans, and suriname frogs I have never experienced flies and maggots. Matter of fact I have never heard of any of my friends having that problem either. I have always kept the substrate of my male pixies just damp to avoid those annoying little bugs that show up from your substrate being to wet. I also keep a big soaking tub inside there enclosure. Except for feeding adult mice I have always fed them in another tank and soak them once a week in another tank to help clean them out good.

That sounds really good. I might have to get one soon. Would suck to grow it up and find out its female, but could always get another one.

Thats the bad part of getting little froglets. John let me know when you are ready to buy one. I can find you a male.

Cool beans. I know i can get them at my LPS, but they are like maybe 3" if that. Dont they need to be 5" to be sexable?

Yes or a little bigger. Some will show male traits early as 3 inches but most will not. More around 4 inches is more likely to know for sure. This time of year you can get the froglets at petco stores. But you dont know the sex of them.

Yeah. I will have to look more into it, and decide from there. Im not huge on owning reptiles/amphibians much anymore. I love them all, but require more needs than i have time for. Thanks.

This one is still getting use to me. Its really not good to hold and pet frogs due to the oils on your skin. My other 3 big males I had I never had any desire to hold them except to take them out for feeding, pic taking, or a good tank cleaning. But I would not dare get my fingers in front of there face. I had to watch myself with them. Especially with Buster. Just to change his water tub he would lunge at my hand from across the tank. He was big and powerful. You can see pics of them by clicking my images under my avatar.
