The strawberry hermit crabs are one of the most difficult pets to maintain. They are extremely sensitive to their surroundings and die more mysteriously than avic slings. I would go into all of the necessities and care they need but it would take up a rediculous amount of space. They are more demanding thant chameleons and children combined.

It's a candle house from Hobby Lobby. It's amazing how many awesome tarantula cages there are at hobby shops. :D

Nice to see a fellow crab hobbyist;)

Honestly I feel that all species of land hermit crabs should be maintained with the care that perlatus receive. I have personally had much better success keeping my other species like my perlatus than the other way round. I think that straws are just much more sensitive to their surroundings than other species.

Those rugosus are stunning! I would love to get more myself but my stores have had nothing but PPs for ever:(

Cheers.

It's hard to find them but I've had ruggies, ecuadorians, PPs, C. cavipes, C. clypeatus, and of course staws. It takes some time to go through their entire tanks, but they seem to pop up in random batches at petco. This is kind of the equivalent to arachnoboards, only for crabs, if anyone's interested: www.hermitcrabassociation.com

My avic just a few pics above. I have the a sneaking suspicion about what species it is. I know that it's most likely just a 100% plain old avic, but she doesn't seem pure blooded to me. Does anyone else agree with me on this and does anyone have any ideas what she got mixed with?
