Mouth to mouth and CPR saved the life of a fish

I was watching the news and this came up. A guy noticed one of his koi in his garden pond was jumping frantically and he figured it was having a heart attack. He gave it mouth to mouth and CPR and the fish lived!! Man what an amazing story. This happened in Belgium.

My mom did the same thing to one of our goldfish when I was a little kid.
The fish was floating on its side in the tank. She pulled it out and blew into its mouth, put it back into the water. She did this repeatedly until the gold fish came back from its near death.
It live for quite a while.
We never let her forget it..

That's cool. My oscar did the same thing with a goldfish once. I guess she forgot to spit it back out.

He figured it was having a heart attack? Yeah, thats the first thing Id think seeing a fish jumping around strangely in a pond.

It wasn't the actual process of mouth to mouth that helped, it was the shock the fish got when the guy grabbed it and started sucking face with it.

I tried to save a trout once. I saw it in a stream, and figured it was getting hypothermic. So I pulled it out and wrapped it in aluminum foil and put it in a large metal pan with some butter. It didn't survive, but mm mm good.

How can CPR help a creature that doesnt use lungs to breathe??
