Does anyone know the healthy weight of an adult mouse? My little Luke is awefully rotund. I have him on a standard rodent diet, I dont remember the brand, but its got pellets and seeds. I also give him fresh veggies about every other day. He has a wheel, but I have never seen or heard him use it. I am thinking of getting him a friend today, but since hes a male, do I have to get a female? Will he fight with another male?

I believe he would fight with another male, and if you get a female, you're going to end up with babies.

As for possible weights, I'd try checking out www.rodentpro.com They usually list a weight range of their frozen feeders.

Two males in one cages will end up with one. I dont know what food you use but maybe change the brand? I used laboratory food for mine, its a nuktivitamin mineral etc food especially made for rodents and here in Canada I bought some big pellets at the local petshop that looks allright but god knows what they contain.
Did you buy your mouse as adult? Are you sure its a male and not a gravid female?
Put some empty toiletpaper rolls in the cage along with newspaper. That will stimulate the mouse natural instincts to make a nest etc instead of walking aimlessly in a wheel.

I own a mouse and the problem is, I constantly overfeed it!:(
Mine is a male and he will hide his food or bury it somewhere, so I think he's got no food and add more... I posted a thread some time ago with pictures of "phat".
Maybe put him on a veggie diet or something?:}

A gravid female get very round, but only at the abdominal. Almost grotesque. A fat mouse would be fat "all over" if you know what I mean. But check for balls anyway then you know.

Its definatly a male. He is round all over, its actually pretty funny looking. He has a nice hide, and has constructed tunnels all over his cage, so hes somewhat active. Im going to try getting him a friend.
