I have a small mouse problem (its probably about 2 of them or so) and I'm trying to figure out first what species of mice they are, the best way to get rid of them, and if that thing that you plug into the wall to annoy them and go away really works. the only reason i caught this one is because it was new years eve and my cousin on the first floor had the music up really loud so i guess it stressed the mouse out so much it ran out of its hiding place and on to this sticky mat.

Looks like a regular old house mouse, Mus musculus.
Please do not use glue traps/sticky mats, they are greviously inhumane and cause the animal to die slowly in a great deal of pain and terror, often after a prolonged period of hunger and dehydration if the traps are not checked regularly enough. Your best bet is just a traditional snap trap baited with peanut butter. You could use humane live capture traps, but only if you are willing to relocate at least one mile from your home and check the traps daily. I am not a fan of the "sonar" mouse deterrents as I've found most to be ineffective (plus it can bother non-target species when it DOES work). I suggest finding possible points of entry and stuffing them with ammonia soaked rags and moth balls; this is an excellent deterrent. Also, obviously, keeping things dilligently clean and all food sources well covered is vitally important.
