It wasn't mine. Someone just got their teen son a new T and wanted me to fix the enclosure first to get them used to it.
This G porteri was more aggressive than my OBT!
It was giving a small threat pose and I didn't have a paint brush near by so I to use a pen to move it because I knew it would probably tag me a little if I used my hands. It HELD on to the pen and DIDN'T let go. I was in
mode... I've never seen that species that aggressive. I had to gently FIGHT to get it off that pen, I'm glad it's fangs weren't hurt. It then rolled on its back and I scooped it up that way.
Just a reminder: 1) all Ts are different and 2) make sure you have the proper tools that are generally considered more tarantula friendly. Fortunately he didn't break any chelicerae but he could have. Unfortunately, a paintbrush could have done just as much damage but at least there's less of a risk.
Just shows you. never get too comfortable or cut too many corners.
