Currently i own a snake and a scorpion and am looking to expand my pet collection. I have looked into a lot of things and was thinking about getting a tegu in the near future. Any comments or suggestions?

Too many nifty critters out there -- geckos, skinks, mantids, uropygids, etc............

A good part of this board is dedicated to Tarantulas and you don't have one yet?

I just looked up some info on the Tegus and they seem pretty interesting but get much larger than I knew was possible...2-4 feet. Have you considered a bearded dragon? They are really neat. Also, tarantulas aren't for everyone. As much as I like them, they mostly just sit there and look pretty. Feedings are an exception as well as a few species that like to web a lot, but really once they have enough webbing to feel secure in, they chill on that quite a bit.

I highly recommend getting a bearded dragon. I've had mine for over a year now and I love him dearly. They're full of personality and have their own little quirks, and aren't all that difficult to care for, there's just a decent amount of work that goes into cleaning up after them. :)

I wouldn't get a tegu if you only have a snake and a scorpion, it would be way too big of a step. You can if you really think you know what you're doing, but it's really risky. High maintenance and huge size!

Rats make really nice pets that you can handle often. They are social and its best to have at least two.

Geckos are awesome. I have an African Fat-tail and a Tibetian Frog Eye. You have a lot of choices between terrestrial and arboreal geckos.
