I just caught two jumpers on my way back from my mailbox. The big girl was caught on an old car in my yard and the little one was caught on a wooden fence. I'm certain the big one is a female phidippus audax even though her coloration is different from my other audax female. Perhaps, this new girl is an older female? The little one looks like a male to me. My insect app is calling him a phidippus audax too, but he's more gray with white/gray on his front. I apologize for the poor quality of the pictures. For some reason, my camera really did not like focusing to take the pictures. Hopefully, you can see them well enough to help identify and maybe confirm age. Thanks again in advance.

Yeah pretty sure the black one is Phidippus audax, but the more grey one looks like Phidippus putnami. EDFEC0CC-C2F9-408E-A7E9-4F8C94B0FC19.jpeg 68C25587-A805-41F3-876E-CDD8DFA159F9.jpeg
-juvenile Phidippus putnami

yours looks like a juvenile to me, unable to be sexed. Male and female look similar to females until they are older.

Since you're familiar with my jumpers, do you think the Audax is an older female than Artemis? The new girl looks larger, fuzzier, and has more markings. I may have to keep the second little guy until it gets bigger even though I hate taking him from its fence post lol. Since it looks to be juvenile, it may have a better chance of survival if I keep it until it's older considering how many jumpers and other creatures hang around that fence.

If we’re correct about Artemis being an adult (I hope I’m remembering the right jumper) than it can’t be more mature than her. They aren’t always the same size, and they don’t always have the exact same patterns.

Crappy picture, but this is Artemis. The new girl has more markings on her abdomen and has stripes on the bottom of her abdomen. Artemis has closed herself in her hideaway. Not sure if she's molting.

Yes the patterns can vary from individual to individual.
