Hi all, for the past few years now I've been wanting to get into monitors, but I'm just not sure what a good beginner species is? If anyone could point me in the right direction of what I should start off with, then it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Definitely Savannah and Black Throat monitors as they can become "dog" tame and their husbandry needs are straight forward and simple. Both animals are hearty and thrive in captivity. Huge difference in size between the two. Savannahs average 2 1/2 to 3 feet. Black Throats can double that size.

Sorry to break the news but monitor lizards are in no way a beginner lizard. Almost all species require huge enclosures to thrive, huge amounts of dirt to dig and big water containers to soak themselves in. Try looking into ackies or you could probably post all available species in your area and we can start off with the pros and cons of each :)
