Been out of touch for a few weeks with the renaissance faire season running, but one weekend left and I'll be spending in the land of no internet. But several updates with my Ts to share!
All 3 of my versicolor slings have molted now!
Yay! They are closer to 3/4" each now, and are a bit bluer than they were. All but one have hardened up and eaten, the last molted just a week ago and still has pale fangs, but will hopefully be ready to eat in the next few days...
My B. smithi and B. bohemi slings also each molted, the smithi within a few days of arriving, and the bohemi a week or so later!
They seem to be doing well and have each had time to harden up and have eaten since the molt.
My L. parahybana molted AGAIN
- I've only had the little guy for a month and a half and its already molted twice (and eaten quite a bit in between). It went from being a bit under 1/2" to being at least 1" already, probably a bit bigger. I rehoused it before the last molt since there was some white mold that had grown deep in the substrate - and I put it in an enclosure that was a bit too large. But now its the perfect size!
I've also had my first loss
- my little b. emilia sling that came with the other 2 brachys died. I'm not sure if I can figure out a specific cause - she was housed the same and fed the same as the others.
But she seemed VERY high strung and constantly stressed. I made a point of keeping her in a quiet spot making sure she was shaded from the light on the snake cage so that couldn't bother her, and leaving her alone as much as possible - but I had concerns that she might not make it (briefly considered DS but she seemed to coordinated for it - just way spazzy). So I wasn't surprised to come in and find her with her legs curled under her one morning. Sad, but not surprised - I always read that slings don't always make it. I'll probably get another of her kind at some point. At least her friends seem to be doing wonderfully well!
On the plus side - my friend who introduced me to the hobby last summer has a friend who had a b. vagans sac hatch out, and he offered her and I a couple free slings.
So I may be getting a vagans sling or two in. Need to get the enclosure sterilized and set up again for new babies - and get some other ones built!
My rosie still hasn't darkened. She's sort of eating, but seems to be having trouble chasing and catching her food as well - I have to mostly chase the crickets into her fangs, and then she'll eat them.
So maybe she's thinking about throwing a fast on me....we'll have to see. She's looking in great shape though!
So thats all the updates on my little 8 legged friends in case anyone was curious. Hopefully once the fair season is done (well, at least for the fair I work at), I'll be able to keep up with the boards better - I have dozen of pages worth of posts to read!
