Hi guys,

I found my P. cambridgei molted today, (altough I'm pretty sure he molted about a week or so ago), and managed to take some pictures from him.

I'm guessing it's a mature male because he is quite big, and very leggy. But I don't see any hooks or those things under his palps (sorry, keep forgetting those words :))...

Well, what do you guys think?

And this is just a shot which I liked because of the colors ...
I'm using this full-res one as background, it's pretty neat. It you want a full-res version of this one, just pm me.

Psalmopoeus are supposed to have apophyses, but they may be very small (not that familiar with the genus, sorry). The palpal bulbs might be modified but a closer ventral pic of the palps would be nice - my zoom of the shot got abstractly pixelated.

Alright, I'll go back to pissing him off by getting him out of his hide and try to take some pictures....

Nice looking T you have there. From what I can see, it is a male. Unless I'm mistaken, I can see the bulbous pedipalps in the pic. From the angle of the pics, I didn't see the tibial hooks, but take a look at the under side of his first set of legs and see if you can see them.

Do the guy a favor, find him a nice girl to have lots of little ones with:)

Here is the best ventral pic I could take from his palp... And I will definately try to find him a girl!

Alright, I found this, this should definately tell that it's a male .. (I guess)

I thought this pic was just too blurry, but on closer inspection, I found something very interesting. Watch, and see for yourself.

That one is definately a male...

He is still in postmolting, the fangs didn't harden yet

I have exactly the same doubtness.

I don't now mine is male or female. Looks like a male, but I can't see bulbs...
I can't post a picture, moreover he avoid siting on front glass since few weeks.

My question is: males of cambridgei are more "leggy" than females???

That's as male as male can be.
Send him off on rogering duty!

Yes, Psalmopoeus have tibial apophyses, they are rather small (like triangular lumps) instead of the "hooks" found in some species. Also check out the enormously gangly legs, small chelicerae and the palpal bulbs that look like "boxing gloves".

my P cambridgei had them, but yes, they are hard to see, since they are so feathery!
unfortuately, he met an untimely demise without the female producing an eggsac :(

Can't you see that big pair of bulbs on his palps? To me they're as obvious as the light of day!

I've just had a P. irminia male mature yesterday and he's as male as male can be. Looked in his tank and noticed that his body hadn't grown, but his legs had almost doubled in length. Then I spotted the hooks and the bulbs.

I've advertised him as a breeding loan already even though he's barely out of his skin. Can't have him dying a virgin :D

palps

and hooks

He's absolutely gorgeous, and he's GREEN! I was expecting a brown boring T, but when I fetched him out he was a lovely pine green colour with brown flecks. I'll be sad to see him going on his hols knowing that he may well never return :(

Ah well... I suppose I mustn't grumble, he was 3" when I got him and only cost £3 :)
