She was social for a month, but then she went and hid, why?

first of all tarantulas are not social animals. it is normal for them to hide. also you should take he/she of the bark. it is to abrasive for a tarantulas exosceleton. i suggest you use coconut fiber bedding that can be puchased in most pet stores

It's like 3"deep coconut fiber there, just put handfuls of bark scattered on surface. figured come out for food.

Could be preparing to molt... Usually they don't come for food, they wait for the food to come to them - ambush predators.

i agree that substate is bad news waiting to happen, try other softer subs like coco soft or something. good luck :)
