Thanks for help. Very helpfull <3These look a lot like grain mites, NOT the symbiotic mites you can find on hissers occasionally!
These can spread to other enclosures. Not a problem per se, they don’t harm your animals, they are just nasty as hell and reproduce like crazy.
Clean the enclosure and any surface you can find the mites on with a light bleach solution, replace any eggcrates/ substrate u used with your roaches. Not much more you can do when there are this many mites.
To keep it from happening again:
- Keep your roaches way more dry / add more ventilation
- Remove any uneaten food after 24h
- Remove any dead roaches as soon as you spot them
- Dont give the roaches permanent acces to dry food, they can survive a couple days without food and the food just helps mites to form a population. A few roach breeders i know feed their roaches 1x per week.
- if you use substrate, u can order predatory mites (h. miles). I have them in my roach enclosures with substrate, they eat grain mites and gnat larvae, which is nice to keep infestations from happening.
Hope this helps!
