Hi all,
What are the differences between these two? Or, other black terrestrial t's? I have a pulchra that may be something else...
Peace,
Gillian

re

G. Pulchra, docile usualy, slow grower, black to brownish , not a burrower, comes from brazil i think, terrestial, comonly availible.

H. minax, very defesive, not docile at all, medium grower, needs high humidty, deep burrower, from northern thailand, not often to much for a true minax at least,

these 2 t's are totoly different from each other in all aspects almost in my opinion.also gillian if its a minax it will have some slight cheron patterns on the abdomen , it should also have a really nasty temper.

IMO, the most obvious difference is that the pulchra is a new world T and the minax is an old-worlder. If you're talking about the one you got at the ATS conference, it looked like a pulchra to me. What makes you think otherwise?

I doubt you have a Haplopelma minax. The real H minax is seldom seen in the pet trade, although many tarantulas are sold under the name "H minax"

Gil, I think you should be able to tell due to the aggressiveness of the T? H.minax is an OWer and should display at least some of their attitudes on a much more consistant basis than a crazed G.pulchra would. Even my "Psycho" sometimes behaves the way a G.rosea normally does and not like the C.crawshayi that she wants to be. The other thing to look for is if it kicks hairs, if it does that will rule out it being OW. There is Brachypelma pallidum which is called Rose Grey but the female I have seems to be mostly black with a tiny amount of gray, I've yet to see the rose color to her at all. You may just have another "mutant" crazed Grammastola

Gillian,
definately a pulchra, or at least a NW T. It would have at least faint chevron markings to be one of the asians, IMO.
Mine is the exact same way with food aggression, and when I had to recapture her the other night, she tried to bite me.
I was really really surprised too!
