What are the biggest spiders in the mid west?

Like Iowa Minn Wisc

Garden Spiders are large
Fishing Spiders get pretty big
Some orb weavers

Any others people can think of?

More specific names and/or places to find them?

How about nursery web spiders, similiar in body type to fishing spiders and also can inhabit the same areas as fishers.

There is a type of spider called a brown barn spider
I think. They have really large abdomens, long
legs and make huge webs at night, every single
night. They hide during the day.

barn spider

As common names are difficult to translate sometimes because of their broad nature. Generally the common name "barn spider" is used to refer to the orb-weaving barn spider, Araneus cavaticus. However with the X stance mentioned it must be either from Pisaurina or Dolomedes familes. If the spider was in a web then it may also be a Argiope but not likely because they are relatively easy to identify with a proper field guide. However the two aforementioned familes are more difficult to ID due to lack of sufficient field guides on the families. Hope that was helpful and didn't come off as being harsh. Just trying to share some info.
