Found this girl in the yard yesterday and just had to snap a few pics. And yes I know, my phone sucks for macro images 😅 Super interesting to see and I really wish I could get a better picture of her cleaning her fangs but I tried my best. She really wouldn't stop moving 20230817_175030.jpg so I did what I could. I did end up releasing her back to where I found her. Micrathena gracilis, commonly known as spined micrathena or castleback orbweaver. Really cool abdomen structure too!

I find Micrathena absolutely adorable. Along with wondering about ... certain features. What's the plan, Stan? And letting my imagination run wild, just suppose you had a car with that shape? Probably have the entire road to yourself.

Yeah for sure! Interesting how they just build a web and then decide to do another one elsewhere and continue with that practice.

Nice find !! I saw one in the woods but ℹ couldn’t catch it or get a good picture.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. There is a restaurant and guest house out in the boonies about 50 miles from here I always try to make a point of visiting when in the area. Dozens of Micrathena all over the place, and virtually every one of them seeming to be working on their webs nearly all the time.
Now I'm going to be wondering why this is alongside their customized bodywork.
