This spider was brought to me at the pet store that I work at in Lansing, Michigan. I assume that it was collected somewhere locally but I never got a chance to question the customer that brought it in for me to identify. I'm good with tarantulas but not so much with true spiders. Any help here araneaphiles?

Thanx!

Wow, that was quick! Sowbug Killer, huh? That explains those mighty chelicerae and extreme fang-age. Thank you for your quick id!

They can also have a nasty attitude...I've had them rear up on me more than once. They should be easy to keep in captivity.

these fellows (or at least teh CA species i play with) are fairly tolerant of each other. i had about 10 adults in a ~2G tupperware setup. i actually got babies from at least one. the babies are tiny, almost flourescent orage dots.

this is a great species.

as the hunter said, they will throw threat displays! it is freakin cute! edit: i take that back... it is 99% cute and actually 1% scary
