Hi,
I got a Mexican Red Knee in July he seems fine but I find it odd he doesn’t borrow or make any webbing. Does anyone have an answer ?
thanks

They got the name 'pet rock' for a reason. But if you'd like to share pics of it's enclosure, we can tell more.

That’s normal. None of my terrestrials hide at all.

I can confirm my B.boehmei will also just sit around above the sub all day. Ignores her hide and has never attempted to burrow. She just sits out being all beautiful. Until you look at her and she will throw a cloud of lovely red hairs....

Perhaps he'd rather save & pay cash, or just finds the interest rates unattractive. Either way, he's fiscally responsible, & that's a rare trait in spiders today.
As far as not producing any webbing, maybe he's saving that for his rehouse as well. Good for him.

This made me LOL. Thank you for that chuckle!

There is nothing to be concerned about, if it wants to burrow it will, if it doesn't want to it might never. Behavior before a molt can lead to increased burrowing and hiding behavior, also after a molt behavior can change/temperament can often change drastically! Ive had tarantulas who were previously visible all the time prior to a molt,, and afterwards stay hidden majority of the time, and vise versa or even reverse again with the next molt.

It will burrow when it wants to, likely not before that. Until then wait!!

I have a juvenile female B hamori atm, and same thing she doesn't web much and she doesn't dig but she's eating fine and looks healthy so it's fine. Let em do what they're comfortable doing, these spiders are kinda known for being pet rocks anyway.

I've tried to make my B. emilia a nice little burrow with bark and a lovely (dry) moss roof two or three times now with each rehouse. All in vain. Each time he promptly flattens it, scatters the moss around, and then sits right in the middle of his masterpiece of destruction looking smug. So much for esthetics...
