That would be Brachypelma smithi. Treat it the same as a rose hair (only watch out for more flicked hair). I assume "sara" is a rose hair.

That was quite a wise decision, btw. Smithis are AWESOME tarantulas. Cobalt blue...well...they have their fans, but...well...let's say they also have their detractors.

that's great to hear... I have 2 B. smithi slings right now. How big is your T? If yours is the same size as mine (just about an inch) you'll just need an enclosure, misting every other day and crickets 2-3 times a week.... Good luck!:D

Hallo!

Dont be surprised, if it's affriad of living pray. They are more like scavengers when small. The spider is really a cool one, but will not hesitate to throw hairs as soon as You disturb it. They don't like to burrow, and are pretty pet-rock-ish :) You might want to add it some more moisture than to Your ordinary rosie, but they like it dry, and will do just fine in arid environment.

regards,
Thomas

yes, smithi is a Brachypelma, not euathlus.

wasn't ready for the Cb? CB smithi are all that is available right now. that is due to CITES and importation, and the protection of native mexican tarantulas from export/import.

EDIT: Oh! i'm sorry! you meant the cobalt blue... :wall: sorry, CB usually means captive bred lol

I thought the same thing as I was reading it. I had almost finished my reply when I realized what the OP meant.

A lot of people have bred the Brachypelma smithi here in the Philippines. I think, that's the reason why the slings are sold relatively lower than most slings here. Having said all that, I think that this species is a must have in any collection. They are spectacular, fairly easy to keep and can be handled well. Good luck and enjoy your T!
